With a different camera design, Huawei is preparing to launch its Pura 80 phone.

Huawei has announced the official launch date for its new Pura 80 smartphone series, during an anticipated conference in Beijing on June 11.

This announcement comes after a period of leaks speculating about the specifications of the new series, which is the second generation of the new Pura brand, succeeding the previous P series.

Huawei appears to have spent more time developing this series than it did when it launched the Pura 70 in April of last year, indicating its commitment to delivering substantial improvements, particularly in the photography aspect, which is expected to be a key strength of the higher-end Pura 80 Ultra.

Huawei Pura 80 Specifications

According to circulating technical leaks, the flagship phone in the series will feature a main camera with a large 1-inch sensor and a variable aperture lens, amid speculation that this lens will be developed internally by Huawei.

The camera will also include a 50MP wide-angle lens, as well as a periscope lens with a 1/1.3-inch sensor, significantly enhancing optical zoom capabilities.

Regarding the rear camera module design, official teaser images show a bold and unconventional design, featuring two clear lenses surrounded by a shiny gold ring, believed to represent a dual-lens optical zoom system.

With a different camera design, Huawei is preparing to launch its Pura 80 phone.

This design echoes a technology Huawei used in its previous P40 Pro+, which featured two different optical zoom modules: one offering up to 10x zoom, and the other 3x zoom, giving users unprecedented flexibility in capturing distant objects without loss of quality.

Huawei Pura 80 Colors

Regarding colors and materials, leaks from Weibo revealed Huawei's intention to launch the Pura 80 Pro in three main colors: glossy white, glossy black, and glossy gold.

The phone is expected to feature a ceramic or glossy glass back, giving it a luxurious and sophisticated look.

The higher-end Pura 80 Pro+ will be available in a wider range of colors, including black, white, gold, red, and green, reflecting the company's desire to stand out visually alongside its technical capabilities.

For the first time, the Pura 80 series will run HarmonyOS Next, the latest version of the operating system developed internally by Huawei. This represents a major strategic shift as it is not based on the Android kernel and therefore does not support Google services at all.

The company is banking on this system to achieve complete operating system independence and provide a comprehensive experience powered by artificial intelligence, along with improved performance and security.

As for the processor, although the company has not officially announced the type of chip it will use, expectations are for it to adopt locally developed Kirin processors, especially after Huawei's surprise announcement last year when it unveiled the Mate 60 phone equipped with the Kirin 9000s chip, which supported 5G connectivity despite US sanctions imposed on the company.

Coinciding with the approaching launch date, data showed that the number of pre-orders for the Pura 80 series has exceeded 200,000 across Chinese platforms, reflecting the high confidence in Huawei's products and the keen interest of users in the local market in this new series.
